My section on footwork is concerned with shifting, stepping, leaping, jumping, and turning into stances. Footwork is often combined with some sort of technique or purpose. Footwork can be concerned with holding a static position (as in a shooting stance), but is often concerned with movement or locomotion.
Footwork may be classified as a sub-topic of locomotion. Here is a list to place my footwork section in the larger context of locomotion.
- Self-propulsion of animals, plants, machines, etc. I will be concerned with human locomotion.
- Locomotion through a fluid (EG water or air) or over a subtstrate (EG: water or land). I will be concerned with terrestrial locomotion.
- Locomotion with limbs (EG hands) or without (EG rolling). I will be largely concerned with foot locomotion but I will probably include some knee walking (shikko in Japanese) and rolls and falls.
There are different kinds of human positions [W]:
- Standing.
- Sitting.
- Squatting.
- Lying.
- Kneeling.
- Hanging.
- Other.
There are different kinds of human gaits [W]:
- Walking. Rhythmic limbic locomotion with one limb always on the ground.
- Running. Rhythmic limbic locomotion where at times no limbs may are on ground.
- Crawling. Limbic locomotion with more than just 2 limbs.
- Other.
My section on Martial Positioning will be concerned with human positions and gaits that pertain to martial arts in general. The plan is to cover topics like the following:
- Terminology.
- Stances. Especially focusing on the feet and legs.
- Positions. Especially full body positions.
- Weapon Wards. Most likely swords, staffs, and guns.
- Footwork.
- Blows.
- Falls and Rolls.
- Tactics and Strategies. Positioning is related to time and initiative.
