Parse Text by George Hernandez

This form parses text in common ways. They are applied in the order shown.

Simple Quotes. `, ‘, and ’ to '. “ and ” to ".
Simple Dashes. — and – to --.
HTML Displayed. & to &. < to <. > to >.
HTML ASCII. Takes HTML and encodes the special characters. Special characters that have an official Character Entity Reference (CER. EG: ¥ to ¥.) will be encoded with a CER. Special characters without an official CER will be encodedwith Numeric Character Reference (NCR. EG: 道 (tao) to 道.). EXCEPTIONS: The 5 characters for XML Predefined CERs: " (" = " = " = QUOTATION MARK), & (& = & = & = AMPERSAND), ' (' = ' = ' = APOSTROPHE), < (&#3C; = < = < = LESS-THAN SIGN), and > (> = > = ' = GREATER-THAN SIGN).
HTML Singles. <SomeTag> to <SomeTag />. Coded for the following tags: hr, br, img, and input.
HTML Backslash. \ to \. If the HTML is stored in a MySQL backend, then a NCR is often needed because otherwise MySQL will use the backslash as an escape character.
Escape Apostrophe. ' to ''. Frequently used for SQL code.
Strip Tags: Not selected Strip all but the tags specified (if any) Strip all or just the tags specified (if any) . Strips all tags except for the ones specified or just the ones specified. Does not strip out SGML comment declarations. Uses StripTags(str[, is_allowed [, specified_tags]]). Sort of like PHP's strip_tags(str[, allowed_tags]) ... but better!. EG: Given hi;; If 'b','i' specified as allowed, then returns hi;; If 'b','i' specified to strip, then returns hi; If nothing specified, then returns hi;.
Strip Comment SGML. Strip any SGML-style comment declarations: Between <! and >, with 0+ comments enclosed by a pair of --.
Strip Comment C. Strip any C-style comments: Between /* and */, or between // and the end of line.
Reduce Whitspace. Reduce any sequence of spaces, tabs, carriage returns and such, to a single space.
