| RE: Politics. U.S.A. (America). I like the election results so far. Three major areas were were voted on, and the Democrats have effectively gained a majority in all three areas:
As an added bonus, U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld resigned yesterday. Robert Gates, a close friend to the Bush family, was nominated as a replacement. The Democrat master plan of letting the Republicans shoot themselves in the foot is working. I think it was the only way to do it because of all the Republican FUD. No more wild-eyed Democrats over here. Speak softly and carry a big stick. No need to slam Bush or sling mud or focus on past errors. We're going to calmly do things right and look to the future. The next step is to take back the White House in two years. I'm hoping that the local boy U.S. Senator Barack Obama from Illinois will do it.

| RE: Movies. Two Hobbit Films Planned [movies.ign.com/articles/741/741713p1.html] [via http://digg.com/movies/Two_Hobbit_Films_Planned] I'd like to see a good live action movie of The Hobbit. While I loved the LOTR work by Peter Jackson et al, it would be fair to have a totally different crew work on it.

"Evolution" [campaignforrealbeauty.com/home_films_evolution_v2.swf; video; 00:01:20] [via http://digg.com/videos_educational/No_wonder_our_perception_of_beauty_is_distorted] This short video follows a model from sit down through make up through Photoshop to billboard. While there has been stuff about retouching and stuff over the years, I think this marketing campaign by Dove is brilliant. They're against standards of beauty artificially elevated by marketing —while selling their own beauty products! Retouching is not really the issue. Dressing up is not the issue. People look fine whether they're retouched or dress up but sometimes "society" asks us to put on monkey suits and there are people who sell monkey suits. Just look at kids in preschool: They have goofy hair, goofy clothes, goofy behavior, goofy expression, and yet they're beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. I myself avoid dressing up. I'm clean, comfortable, and natural.

| RE: Family. Health. Inspiration. Video. Together - Team Hoyt [youtube.com/watch?v=D52rJd9GX10; video; 00:04:20] [via http://digg.com/videos_people/Best_Dad_Ever_Dad_gives_best_gift_to_son_Read_then_watch_the_video] A great father son combo. As parent with experience with handicaps, I strongly identify with this story. Essentially because of an umbilical cord accident during birth, Rick Hoyt was was largely paralyzed and unable to walk and talk. However years later it turned out that he could communicate via special equipment and he told his mom and dad, Dick and Judy, that he wanted to participate in a charity race for his school. The dad was not a runner but rather a self-described "porker", but he decided to push his son in the run anyway. They've been running, biking, and swimming in marathons, triathlons, and the like since. One of their best marathon times was 2 hours and 40 minutes, which is only about half an hour short of the world record. Additionally, after a lot of running, Dick had a mild heart attack with his arteries at 95% clogged, so it turns out that Dick might have been in serious trouble if he had not started running. Rick has his own apartment now but Rick and Dick still race and lecture together.

Kate Bilo's blog [accuweather.com/news-blogs.asp?partner=accuweather&traveler=0&blog=bilo] [via http://digg.com/design/Most_Flirtatious_Avatar] I think the blog is about the weather and herself, but now it's famous (thanks to digg) because of her distractingly flirtatious animated avatar.
Listen up gals: Look, smile, and blink. Flirting is just that easy. Girls don't need to show a lot of skin or be clever or whatever. Looking, smiling, and blinking will do it. So says over 3900 diggs! I suspect a similar thing is true for guys but the trick is to do it without being creepy.

Sexual Consent [glumbert.com/media/consent; video; 00:06:10] [via http://digg.com/videos_comedy/Sexual_Consent] Visually SFW and the audio is literally SFW, but any adult can decipher the legalese and determine that the content of the audio is actually NSFW. Silly people on digg struggling with Article 20!
A very nice short video directed by Jason Reitman. Funny because its element of truth.

My kids don't even watch World of Warcraft, but they still love the South Park WoW videos. More proof of their genius is that they appreciate Battlestar Galactica and will not speak ill of it on the show.

| RE: Health. Martial. My Stuff. Just for kicks, here's the fast half hour workout I did this morning before I took my shower:
I'm varying my pre-shower workouts these days so that each one is slightly different. I've been doing more grappling positioning exercises and break dancing like moves. Outside of my pre-shower workouts, I have Saturdays with the Chicago Swordplay Guild, exercise machines once a week (light resistance, many reps, fasts), and grappling/karate for another workout during the week. The other week I got quite dizzy doing exercise machines so I watch my eating before a big workout and I stay hydrated. I've also been making sure I get protein fairly soon after my workouts. I want to get more chin ups in at odd times but besides playgrounds and the gym, the only way might be to get a thick length of rope for doing it from tree branches. |
